Our Causes and our Top Fundraising Members

CitiSlickers members have ridden to support various causes, among them the National MS Society, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Our members are not required to raise funds for each ride but they still make the effort to do so.

Many of us find fundraising painful but it’s not when done correctly. Fundraising can bring an enormous sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. Just ask the following CitiSlickers who made the Top 100 Fundraiser Club for the 2006 Frisco to Fort Worth MS 150 Bike Tour. Between them they raised more than $18,000 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society!

Kathy Boyett. The 2006 MS 150 ride marked Kathy’s first ride as a CitiSlickers team member. But she is no stranger to the Top 100 Club, having ridden in many MS 150 tours as a recognized Top Fundraiser. Kathy is also a long-time cyclist and as a team we welcome her experience and knowledge in both riding and fundraising matters.

Elizabeth Schopmeyer. For the past two years, Elizabeth has proudly worn #25 in the MS 150 Bike Tour in north Texas. That makes her the 25th highest fundraiser in the Bike Tour. In 2006 Elizabeth more than quadrupled the funds she raised in her first MS 150 in 2004. But even as she raises the bar for herself, so do other riders, and for an incredible third time Elizabeth will sport good ole #25 in the upcoming 2007 Bike Tour.

Jennifer Wall. A jogger by sport, Jennifer completed her first MS 150 in May 2006 on a borrowed bike after training for only two months. But as amazing as her accomplishment of completing the entire 150 mile route is her strongly successful fundraising. In her first fundraising year Jennifer relentlessly raised $4,000 for the National MS Society and in 2007 she will proudly wear one of the yellow bib numbers that celebrate the fundraising achievements of those in the Top 100 Club.

Andy Watkins. Andy’s serious fundraising efforts are clearly evident in his repeated return each year to the Top 100 Club. His fundraising is a lesson in perseverance that stems from a true desire to help others and he never hesitates to share his fundraising secret with anyone who expresses an interest. His rule for fundraising is simple: Never be afraid to ask!

CitiStinkers

David keyboard

Did you know that CitiSlickers is the only cycling team in the U.S. with its own symphony? Yes! Aptly named CitiSTINKERS, the symphony is composed of team members with dubious musical “talent” and includes trombones, clarinets, drums, and even

bongos! CitiStinkers made its hysterical debut in a fun-filled performance that netted over $400 in donations that subsidized the fundraising of junior team members who rode in the 2006 MS 150. Audiencemembers rolled with laughter at the tone-deaf quality of the symphony’s repertoire and eagerly offered donations to keep Symphony members from continuing to play their musical instruments.

The Music of the Night

What can we say? We LOVE music! Unlike the CitiStinkers concert, our next musical fundraising extravaganza will feature high-quality PROFESSIONAL bands and everyone is welcome to join us! Four popular area bands are generously donating their time and talent and a local club is opening its doors to us so we can dance the night away to support our fundraising for the MS 150.
